The Sensory Symphony introduces the sensory systems through a cast of memorable characters, each bringing something different to the orchestra.
Through story, simple explanations and visual metaphors, complex sensory science becomes easier to understand, easier to remember and easier to talk about.
It is an adult learning resource designed to help everybody understand Ayres Sensory Integration more clearly — with the science tucked inside the story like vegetables hidden in soup.
Course Overview
We hear the word sensory everywhere. Sensory play. Sensory toys. Sensory rooms. Sensory needs. Sensory activities.
But what does Sensory Integration actually mean?
The Sensory Symphony begins there.
Instead of starting with terminology, definitions and diagrams, we enter the world of a rather unusual orchestra.
Each character helps us understand one sensory system: what information it detects, what that information tells us and why it matters.
But understanding the individual sensory systems is only the beginning.
As our characters begin to play together, the bigger idea emerges: the brain does not experience these sensory systems as seven separate performers. It must organise and integrate information from across the senses so that we can make sense of ourselves, our environment and what is happening around us.
That is where The Sensory Symphony becomes more than a collection of sensory characters.
It becomes an introduction to the fundamental idea behind Ayres Sensory Integration.
The webinar does not teach participants how to assess or treat Sensory Integration difficulties, nor does it replace professional ASI training. Instead, it provides an accessible conceptual foundation for adults who want to better understand the science behind the word sensory.
