Hippotherapy
At Little Lives, hippotherapy combines the healing power of movement, nature, and human connection to support children’s physical, emotional, sensory, and developmental growth.
Using the gentle, rhythmic movement of a horse as part of a structured therapeutic approach, hippotherapy helps children develop balance, coordination, posture, core strength, sensory regulation, communication, confidence, and emotional resilience in a calm and nurturing outdoor environment.
Unlike traditional horse riding lessons, hippotherapy is guided by trained therapy professionals who use the horse’s movement intentionally to support each child’s individual therapeutic goals. The movement of the horse closely mirrors the natural rhythm of human walking, providing powerful sensory and neurological input that can support the developing brain and body.
Hippotherapy may benefit children experiencing:
Sensory processing challenges
Autism spectrum differences
ADHD and attention difficulties
Anxiety and emotional regulation challenges
Developmental delays
Low muscle tone and coordination difficulties
Balance and posture challenges
Motor planning difficulties
Speech and communication delays
Confidence and social connection difficulties
For many children, the therapeutic relationship formed with the horse creates opportunities for trust, emotional connection, courage, and joy that are difficult to replicate in traditional clinical settings.
At Little Lives, we believe healing and development can happen through movement, play, nature, and meaningful connection. Hippotherapy offers children a unique space to grow stronger, calmer, more confident, and more connected — one step at a time.
